the tripmeter broke last week... and since i have an extra speedometer i was hoping to swap out the tripmeter works and drop it into this other speedo.

but there are two screws holding the tripmeter works in place on the speedometer and i can't get to them without removing the face hence the need to remove the needle.

You have to peel that can open.. from the back you can put in any parts you wish. You may even see what is wrong with your trip thingy.
It takes a little persistance but once open you can get to anything you want.

you're right about persistence i got it figured out.

just unscrewed the two screws holding the face in and twisted the face until i was able to fit a small phillips through either the odometer or tripmeter openings and popped the new tripmeter works in.
