Hi guys, so I just bought a TD trooper on ebay, it runs and drives but the frame is gone on it and the body is also. Any one know the HP and Torque specs on the 2.2 Turbo Diesel? I would like to transplant it into a 96 or so Trooper/SLX but I am not sure how it would handle the extra weight. I would imagine that 200 ft/lbs of torque could be achieved with a different turbo?

IT WONT HANDLE THE EXTRA WEIGHT, OF NEARLY 1000 LB,S THE ENG IS ONLY 80 HP, AND ABOUT 120 FT LBS OF TORQUE AT ABOUT 2200 OR SO, IF YOU SQUEEZE IT AND MAKE IT PUT OUT 200 FT LB,S BETTER BE SHOPPING FOR A NEW CRANKSHAFT AND RODS AND A NEW CRANKCASE , YOU WILL NEED IT, THAT IS NOT A HIGH OUTPUT DSL AND YOU CANNOT TWIST IT THAT HARD , KEEP WHERE IT BELONGS AND IT WILL EASILY GO 200K BUT START FORCE FEEDING IT AND I PROMISE YOU WILL BE WALKING BEFORE LONG, JERRY

Thats sort of sad, surely it could do a couple more foot pounds of torque. Maybe a Rodeo would be more matched then a 2nd gen trooper?

Nice find. Good price? I wonder about swapping the engine and tranny into the little Amigo? How many miles are on the system? A few of us are collecting Troopers to build up a C223T parts stash, please keep us in mind if you decide not to do the swap.

so jerry, it sounds like the motor was ultra reliable with no turbo, and that the turbo alone is sort of pushing the limits already?? so would you think it unwise to consider smaller mods, like opening up what seems like an awfully restricted intake(from the filter, all the way across to the passenger side fender), a larger exhaust, or even an intercooler?? as a side note how can i contact you about parts(seals and timing belt?) thanks........ fox in oregon

I would love to find a 98 or so Amigo with a bad engine to do a swop... I got the whole trooper for $1k. It runs and shift nice, but the body is gone. The frame is pretty much gone in front of the leaf springs, the body mounts are holding the drive train together. The trooper has 114k miles on it, but the engine was supposed to be rebuilt 40k ago. It sounds very nice, and it starts right up in 25 *F temps.

AN INTERCOOLER WILL HELP SOME BUT AT THE SAME BOOST PRESSURE , WHICH YOU SHOULD NOT EXCEED THE FACTORY SET, I WOULD NOT EXPECT TOO MUCH OF A GAIN, A LARGER EXHAUST FROM THE TURBO IS A DEFINATE PLUS GO AS BIG AS YOU CAN GET IN THERE AND A FREE BREATHING MUFFLER ,IT IS NOTICEABLE, THE INTAKE NOT SO MUCH ASA GAIN BUT A REAL GAIN IN NOISE LEVEL, THOSE THINGS ARE NOISEY WHEN OPENED UP. , CONTACT ME AT JLEMOND@BELLSOUTH.NET JERRY

Of course there are worries. It's all about trade-offs. Mechanics rule of thumb = take it down until it sparks, and back it off a 1/4 turn <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />
