Need a Spot
Hi,

I parked my 1990 3.0L V6 4-door 4WD Montero about 6 months ago. I charged up the battery and tried to start it. It cranks hard but won't turn over. I tested for spark and has none. Plug wires aren't new but newer. I swapped out for a new distributor cap & rotor, even though I didn't figure that was the problem they were cheap. I had the Ignition Control Unit tested at a local auto parts store. Tested fine. Swapped in a new ignition coil. Still no spark.

I'm looking for suggestions on what to try next. I have the Haynes manual and it isn't very helpful. Could the photo optic sensor be the problem? It ran just fine when I parked it.

Thanks much!

Thanks for the ECU suggestion. I will investigate that route. I've looked in the Haynes book and via google for about 15 minutes. Can't find a solid reference to where the ECU is. Where is it??

Also, is there any chance that the actual distributor is bad? That was the only other think I could think of. Thanks.

The ecu is under the glove box on the passenger side, 3 - 8MM bolts and then it drops down to the floor. Look for black stains or ooze under the capacitors.

on my '91 it is right under the glove box and above passenger floor below the heater blower, it has a cover over it.
