Hi All..
I am considering importing a right hand drive Izusu Bighorn from Japan.
Has only 82k, new timing belt, beautiful shape.
Two questions.
I am very concerned about parts. If this thing does break down, or need servicing, how easy are every-day parts easy to get (plugs, filters, break parts, etc)?
Also..there is a partial roof rack on it...it is missing the cross-bars which I will need. Is there a source where I can buy?
Comments??
Thanks all!!
Dave

Most replacement parts will interchange from a standard USA version of the Trooper, bearings, rotors, u joints, brake pads. etc... plugs? I am assuming glow plugs? Glow plugs come in standard sizes, only a couple different styles out there. Should be able to go to the local Auto parts store and match em up, Filters on the other hand, u should be able to find the OE part numbers and cross reference them to local manufacturers. The hardest things to find would be the engine internals. I would imagine the water pump might be difficult also. If i was to import one, i would have the exporter pick up a new water pump and ship it in the trooper as a spare. I would also imagine that fuel filters should interchange with some of the Isuzu HD stuff such as the NPR/NQR cab over trucks.
Is it legal to operate a vehicle on US roads with a right hand drive arrangement?

Vehicle will be going to Canada. The seller e-mailed me saying that he would pick up any hard to find parts and put them inside the trooper for me.
What is a going price for this type of 4x4? Vehicle is in fantastic shape, only 82kms on it, manual tranny, 3.1l diesel.
Price shipped is just under $5k

Don't know about Canada, but here in the states I would imagine that a trooper like that would bring around 8-10k on Ebay. To be honest, i would do just about anything for a stock 92+ Trooper TD... A year ago, there was a 98 trooper on Ebay with a 3L TD from a 86 Merc-Benz along with the Benz auto trany(that means no T-Case for 4x4). The Trooper sold for $11k
That is an incredibly low import price, I usually check Ebay for imported BigHorn TD engines/tranys and they want around $4,500 for them. I have considered buying one to transplant into my 96 Acura SLX (Re badged trooper).

Hi..
Here are the specs on the Bighorn that I got..
Model : UBS69GE Handling by Lotus Year : 1992 Chassis No. : UBS69GE-7201925 Colour : Green Mileage : 82,000 kms Engine : 4JG2 Transmission : 5spd Manual Transmission Rating : 4.0B
Price : FOB 400,000 JPY Freight : 180,000 JPY (to Vancouver, Canada with container) Insurance : 8,000 JPY Total : CIF 588,000 JPY - Terms of Settlement : Funds payable in advance by Bank TT in JPY -
Description : 3.1L Diesel turbo intercooled 16" Alloy wheels Rain Deflectors(front) Rear spare tire carrier Hard cover for the spare tire 7 passenger
All belts including timing will be changed out right before shipping, fluids replaced if necessary, underneath undercoated, rust free. All of other components are working well and the truck runs very well. Lately, it has been very difficult to get space on a RoRo shipment. I have no idea when we could get the truck shipped with RoRo. Container shipping is available much easier, it would take a few weeks to be shipped. However only when using container, it costs $400 Cdn for unloading a vehicle from a container on receiving end.
Still not a bad deal I guess....
