Need a Spot
The corporate culture that has charged Toyota's ascendance in the automotive world isn't without its pitfalls. Pride in quality products has driven the automaker for decades and the recent spate of issues with the Tundra û from snapping camshafts, cracking tailgates and faulty torque converters û is making Toyota executives realize that exponential growth is not without its pains.

Speaking with Automotive News at the Tokyo Motor Show, ToMoCo's global manufacturing exec admitted that problems with the automaker's full-size pickup have caused "shame" within the company. Takeshi Uchiyamada cited the rapid expansion of Toyota's production facilities, increased sales and issues with new products as being the major dilemmas facing the automaker, but that all these problems are being addressed. Recognizing the issue is half the battle, but time will tell whether or not Toyota's break-neck pace will continue to hamper the Japanese firm's growth.

Body Damage is Cool
Coming right along with that is the loss of the coveted Consumer Reports blanket recomendation for anything Toyota. Toyota quality has dropped quite a bit in recent years.

Don't forget crash safety the Tundra. The new one does worse in crash testing than the older one. Ford and Chevy both improved the heck out of their trucks on crash safety, while Toyota went down.

Amen. The 2003 Corolla was a pos compared to the 91 when you looked at craftsmanship and durability. My 93 T is like new too. No J, no pay.

When I bought my T100 the dealer thought they were american made (and that I would want an american made one). It was on my contract that if there wasn't a J for the VIN, I would not take deliver of the truck.

In Toyota's court though, they are producing more trucks than they were 10 years ago. I wish they could keep the quality, but with an increase in quantity it had to suffer.

I got a camry while I was waiting for my recall work.

POS but it has good brakes. Now I didn't go down any hills in it but they bit hard when I stopped.

At least the new airconditioner panels don't use cables. Hurrah. Now if they would go to design school and figure out how to make an ergonomic radio or airconditioner panel, or just make it look nice.

Yeah, we like when every display on the car is a different color, different size, and the fonts are different, and let's give them all backlights of varying brightness while we're at it. What are they trying to do? Distract us from all the engine and road noise you hear inside the car? (t100 quieter inside.)

Uggghhh... LCD's that put black numbers on a light background are so 80's! Scratch that, my 300ZX's climate control had green numbers & symbols to match the rest of the car against a dark background. So 70's!

Is there anything good? Maybe parts prices for the made in USA trucks aren't so high?

Couldn't say it any better than that...

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Ditto for me. My 97 T-100 and 94 Camry wagon both look and run like new. US built trucks are unionized crap.
