Need a Spot
Hello every one,

97 T100 V6 5spd 4WD ext cab

IÆm having problem with my air conditioner.
When it stoped cooling (coolant loss ???) I have attempted to recharge it.
After applying 1 can of 134a it was cooling again.
Unfortunately when driving to work next day I could smell coolant in the cabin.
It looks like the coolant was being pumped into the cabin through the cabinÆs vents.
I believe that problem is with a cooling unit û evaporator to be exact.
Is evaporator exchangeable or it would be entire unit?

Anybody experienced similar problem?
How did you fix it?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

On most A/C systems the evaporator is a separate and serviceable / replaceable part. [My 2001 Durango needed one.] Won't be a cheap part though, not sure if they can be re-brazed, etc. for repair.

Many Japanese imports had the A/C system added in the US at the port of entry to minimize duty costs - not sure about T100s but this may mean that it was designed to be a bit easier to get to and service.

You can reach under the dash on the pax side and put your hand on the evaporator enclosure. Probably you can just remove the glovebox to get clearance for it.

Thanks for your input guys.

So, assuming my evaporator is bad (cracked or rusted).
I must replace it or do I have a chance fixing it?
- welding, gluing, etc?

What would you suggest for a replacement?
- Toyota new $180.00
- aftermarket about 80.00

Thanks

H20 man was selling the whole A/C kit. You might see if he still has it and how much he wants for it.
A/C etc.

Find the leak before you go buying any parts. It could be as simple as a bad o-ring at one of the connections.

Everything comes apart. Get an O ring kit like Erik advises smile
