I got to the trail Wednesday and noticed the manual hub didn't seem to click when I turned it to 4WD. On the trail I noticed it wasn't in 4WD, but with the lockers I was able to complete the trail anyway (3WD in tough spots). I took it apart today and the gear (outer part of hub) was shattered. Fortunately I had a hub from the set I bought after the last failure (plastic retainer and spring inside hub broke). If I have another failure, I'm switching to rebuilt Aisin hubs.

Despite the breakage, I had a great time teaching my daughter how to drive off-road and the fall colors were great in the Virginia mountains.

Yep, Thats why I like my Aisins from Matt @ Indy. I had 2 sets of SuperWinch both sets ruined one CV each time they Grenaded. Ill never go back and the flimsey Spring doesnt make them any more better as those break in worst possible times. As with the Allen heads that Round out too, Good thing you still made Trail, Lucky, Lockers.... But alot of people like them and some like the price.

I wasnt satisfied.

Some people say they'd rather break a hub than something more expensive...but the SW hubs seen rather prone to break well before anything else would break, from what I have seen.

I put on a set of SW hubs 3 years ago and have never broken them down since. I beat the DS out of them and hit alot of mud and high water. They have worked great for me.

So was this post the kiss of death or what? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Actually, I've broken 3 cv axles over the past 4 years. In those cases the axle broke before the hubs.

Well then the old hub-as-fuse theory really doesn't hold water, does it? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I somehow managed to not destroy my sw hubs after smaking one hard on strike ravine. Put a hole in it but still works fine..

I still prefer the chance of them breaking before anything else, cheaper and easier to replace. I do carry my stock drive flanges with me at all times though in case one does break.

I've got a hole in one of mine after 4 or 5 years. They were used when I bought them from another wheeler that used to be on this board. Still work. I'm not complaining.

when looking for a container to hold drained brake fluid, find a container that is different from the beverage you are currently consuming.
