I want to remember someone saying something about the lights running through the hazard switch. I think the hazard switch was bad causing the brake turn signal problems. Maybe do a search of that. Hope it helps.

No, no! It's the emergency flasher switch. They discontinued the hazard switch, because it was too scary for people to use, a running change in the 87 model year at vin 0003454.

GENTLY pry switch top or bottom outwards while pressing down/up depending on how you started. Switch should ease free of the hole. Pull out with the wiring plug and unplug it. Look at the long sides of the switch. See the two little tabs on the back side that engage the 4 slots on the long sides? You have to GENTLY pry the sides away from the backside tabs so the backside slips out backwards. STOP, you just lost some parts. A spring and a ball and maybe a grain of wheat light bulb (Radio Shack). When you take the back out, take it out upwards over a workbench and watch how it goes together. When you rock the rocker switch toggle, the spring and stuff that bridges the contacts snaps the other way and completes the flasher circuit. All the turn signals and the brake lights run thru the hazard switch. I clean all the contacts inside with a rubber pencil eraser to shiny and put on a smear of dielectric grease and change the light bulb, then put it back together and snap the back onto the switch. Then I go buy one that works.

If it's any help to anyone else that has this problem, I am a parts man at a Chrysler Dealer. We actually have the hazard switch. Same switch on a new yorker and a dart. Part retails for $95. MB330277 p/n

Actually, fixing the guts is easy on these, and works well. The only hard part is taking the switch apart and putting it back together without cracking the case. Rob one from every JY truck you find.

Also useful to rob the dash light dimmer, especially if you add dash lights to the circuit and melt the resistance coil on yours.

if you can survive without hazard lights, then maybe jumper the harness side connector pins and shove it back in the dash. This will do until next inspection

Consult the wire diagram first!

we live for hazards. I always thought hazard lights were a quartet of KC's on top of the cab.. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
