Don't they do that to keep their horns sharp?

Nice shot. You sure seem to get some great wildlife photos BJ.

Cuervo...These little deer are a nono! Ya have to let em grow up before shoting them.

Browne It is testosterone driven for sure.. If anything it dulls the horns. They have to beat up tres and fence posts because the other deer won't stand still for them to beat up on.. When one does the fight may be to the death..

But they are more tender when that young lol
you mentioned fight to the death, a guy that was at a sportsman show back home had 2 massive bucks that was full bodied mounts. their antlers was locked together and he had many many pictures of them as he found them. the exact reason for their death is unknown, they didn't appear to have starved,or was decomposed for that matter. maybe from over exertion or got over heated and the temp dropped too much. who knows , but needless to say those things are dangerous(defenseless my ) .

So what do you Texas boys consider a "Large Deer"?

We are into our "muzzleloader only" part of the season right now, and I think I might need to go out and see if it still shoots straight.

Depends on the area... If the area has been hunted hard for many years a 140 might be considered "big" for that area.
If the area has been taken care of for a while then a 160 might be what one is looking for..
In many places where the herd has been culled and taken care of for many years a 175 may be passed over while looking for a better one.

Who put the horns on the chihuahua? Oh, that's suppose to be a deer. I thought everything was bigger in Texas.

Just pulling your chain Big Jim, nice shot

He's showin all the ladys he's in the area. Bucks rub scent onto these trees in this fashion to tell all of the other bucks how old/large and potent he is through the scent and he'll also hoof up the turf and pee to the same effect. Not a bad deer to be honest but we're used to that here in Wyoming.
