Is the only way to lift the front end of an IFS by adjusting the torsion bar? That seems to be the theme with the suspension lifts from indy.

That's it. While over the years people have said that there "ought" to be a way to make an IFS lift kit, there are significant geometry differences from say, a GMC pickup. In addition, there really isn't a large enough market to make the necessary development costs viable for a manufacturer.

That, and most serious IFS lift kits are in excess of $2000...most of us Isuzu guys are cheap bastards...

I know that isuzus are UNIQUE compare to other similar trucks (Toyota, Nissan) I don't know much about Toyotas but one thing I always notice is that most Toyotas seem to have a lot of clearance for a stuck truck... am I right? Or itÆs just an optical illusion? My question is, Are IsuzuÆs IFS a lot different from Toyotas of any year?

Too bad. So what is the most anyone will want to lift the front with the torsion bars? I posted in tech about cranking the torsion bars, but still am wondering this. Last night I went and turned them to give me another 1.75" up front, just want to know how much more is safe. After you lift the front that way do you have to drive it around a bit before you measure to see how much the front has ACTUALLY gone up? I just turned and measured.

I always notice is that most Toyotas seem to have a lot of clearance for a stuck truck... am I right? Or itÆs just an optical illusion? this is not an illusion... Isuzus are really very well built trucks, but the engineers obviously did not care much about the clearance. The way how the sub-systems attached to each other is not good for the ground clearance and for the lift overall. When I had helped by buddy to lift his Montero 3", I was surprised that the CV angles on his Montero became almost neutral after the lift ! The Montero's CVs are designed very lift-friendly: on a stock truck, the angle is negative; when you lift it, it becomes neutral. Compare it to the usual Isuzu problems with steep CV angles. The same is true in regard to the configuration of the transmissions and TCs (especially if you compare it to the Toyotas). With the same tire size, a stock Isuzu has less ground clearance than a stock Tacoma. We just have to try harder.

You're going to max out at about 3 bone jarring inches of lift with your Trooper. I hated how mine rode after that much cranking so I SAS'd it. I've since realized that I would rather run mostly stock and just armor the hell out of the underside. Toyotas do come with more stock ground clearance, but they are not nearly as unique.

yotas have a lot of clearance at the rockers and mostly underneath, but they have a plow for a t-case crossmember. when i look at my trooper from the side, there isn't much hanging down past the frame at all.
