Should start in -11* with just some extra smoke and a bit of bumity bump for a minute or so. I'd start with the advice above - at the very least clean the flat metal piece that ties all the plugs together, (bus bar) and clean the carbon off the tips of em? Maybe buy yourself some time?

Body Damage is Cool
Mine started after an overnight at -25C (dead plug at the hotel) but it took a long time to get going. A weaker battery system and it would have died for sure. Thank you dual batteries (and winter fuel)!

I just got a remote starter at Cambodian Tire for $100. Writeup says good for diesels and allows for periodic starts (of course, not in Ottawa, where unattended idling is illegal )

I'm debating whether to put it in the paj or my wife's 07 focus. Has anybody done this install? I'm a little
leery of damaging the ECU.

There is no ECU to damage. But, how does this unit control our "manual" glow relays? I doubt it will work for the pajero. Maybe on a newer system that auto-glows and starts.

Good question thanks. I know it allows for several seconds of glow plug and then adjustable cranking periods in the 20 second range. will look into it in more detail

Need a Spot
My 91 pajero starts great in the garage but it sits outside in the wind all day. Yesterday I bought two new batteries(Platinums 1000CCA ea from Battery Direct)because my old ones just couldn't cut it at -40C in Saskatoon. They work great with the oil pan heater but I want to add a block heater too. The Stanadyne product can be found at http://www.stanadyne.com , then look for dealers. Thanks for all the advice.

Either i am lucky or slowly destroying Mr.Bater.

What is this manual glowplug thing?
i turn the ignition, wait for a click and fire it up (just like my Toy diesel)
Am i missing something?

Your Pajero is equiped with a glowplug ECU. It was discussed in an early thread.

Dont forget to plug in your Pajero in -42 degree weather. I have been away for all of January and came from +5 in Jackson Hole Wyoming to -42 here in the foothills. I didn't realize it was going to get that cold and forgot to plug in my truck. The next morning I was cursing and went to go start it still not realizing it was -42. I thought maybe -20 and I know it still starts in that not plugged in but not good for it. I went to go start and saw the thermometer inside and almost crapped my pants. I tried turning it over and yeah wasn't going to happen. Even after plugging it in for a couple of hours. 8 hours later, battery warmer, pan heater and heater in the enging compartment with blankets over the hood etc and finally she started. I thought it was all good until I drove to work the following morning (only -35 now) and it died in an intersection and required a tow. Turns out over 3000kms of hard driving may rattle a fuel filter loose so make sure that's tightened everytime an oil change is done haha. It was a bad week
