Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey guys, first post here. Just found this board by accident. Actually found ACY76's website about putting the 4JB1 into the Trooper, and made my way here. This is an awesome board, and I've already found a few answers but need some more.

I have a 82 diesel pup 4x4. I love the truck but it has been down for almost 4 years due to a very worn out engine. Unable to find some new pistons to rebuild the C223, and have given up on that route. So then I decided to look for a good running C223 in the junk yards and found one. Or so I thought. It was too far away for me to go look at personally and they said they could ship it for 100 buck. They said it had 110k on the clock and ran like a dream. Came with a 90 day warrenty, so I said send it on down here. That was a waste of 600 bucks. Yesterday I went to swap out the oil pans cause it came out of a 2wd and found the no. 3 rod cap only held on by one bolt, and the nut was barely hanging on by a few threads. You can imagine what the crank looks like, and we all know what the head looks like .

So then I hit the 'net and found this place.

I want to put a 4JB1 in, or preferrably a 4JG2 mechanical, as I understand they are interchangable. I am wondering how different my 82 pup is from that guys 88 Trooper. I know my crossmember is different (welded), but I think it wouldn't be any more difficult than what he's doing. Also, will the C223 trans work with those engines. I don't really need an OD with the tires I have, and I drive with a pretty light foot, so I think it would hold up if driven right??

Anyway, and ideas????

Thanks guys

Your going to be dollars and mucho time saved to rebuild the C223. The parts are available. You can look at complete rebuild kits by searching Australian Parts Suppliers look under (HOLDEN JACKAROO). The shipping is not that outrageous. Also if you can find a patient parts guy at a Thermo-King Dealership (transport refrigeration) he can order the C223 parts for you. The pan and some other Misc. stuff is different but the engine is going to be the same. The last pup engine that we did, I found quite a bit of stuff at NAPA
ROD BEARINGS-$39.64 CB1093P
MAIN BEARINGS-$70.29 MS1738P
THRUST WASHERS- $9.29 TW470S
CAM BEARINGS -$14.49 SH907S
OVER SIZEDRINGS ? I can't find my part # but I bought them for a 82 ISUZU

Don't give up! They are not complex engines to rebuild.

My friend at the machine shop has sourced everything and it is all availible two to three days out, except the pistons. I have been searching for new pistons for years now, and keep coming up empty handed.

It was my understanding that the foriegn versions of the C223 used different pistons. Is that correct??

Will do some more searching.

Thanks
