Getting the Wheeling Fever
My 87 raider is in the shop with a 5th gear problem, a really bad growl/rattle. Other 4 gears and reverse are normal. It is out waiting to be opened up to see whats the problem.
Hows internal parts availability for the KM-145 5spd? The shops primary parts supplier is being "iffy" about parts. Are most of the parts available from either Chrysler or Mitsubishi?
Guess after 350K miles and 20 years I should be retiring it from daily service.......

Any thoughts, opinions or info would be greatly appreciated

350k miles on a KM145!

If you are looking for parts from Chrysler, they tend to not know as much. The tranny parts are the same as a Starion / Conquest, except the truck has lower 1st and 2nd gear- maybe a few other things.

I had my fifth and some bearing go when the locknut on the output shaft let go. I put parts from a Quest tranny I had on to replace.

Make sure the shop puts the locknut on right. Better yet, have them put it on right, and use Locktite red.

Body Damage is Cool
My KM 145 is still alive at 378,000!!! I know that in the future it will eventually need to be rebuilt so I am also interested in where to find parts. Mine is still in good shape and if nothing goes bad (fingers crossed) when the time comes I will need synchros and bearings.

I found this websight which list parts for the KM-145.
I have not purchased anything from them though. I just bought another used tranny.

But that unit is different to the KM145, isn't it a 4 speed and cable actuated clutch?

5 speed, cable clutch but the innards should still be similar.

replace everything inside or it will fail very soon after the rebuild, reason is what you can't see with your eyes is all the metal from the gear(s) that have failed have run thru the others and have damaged them so its better to just replace everything inside i think this is the main problem when these trannys get rebuild is they really need to be fully rebuilt not just replace the worn/broken parts.
