Disconnect hoses at firewall and back flush with a garden hose until the water runs clear. Then forward flush and repeat a few times until the water flows clear both ways.

Disconnect hoses at firewall and back flush with a garden hose until the water runs clear. Then forward flush and repeat a few times until the water flows clear both ways. Works great if you apply pressure slowly. Some city water systems have enough pressure to blow the heater core if you pressurize one that's really stopped up too rapidly. Ask me how I know!

Yes, that is true. I use a trigger nozzle with a tapered end and shove that into the hose then slowly open the nozzle until water comes out the other hose. You can also see if back pressure is building up if water starts squirting back out of hose the nozzle is inserted in. Also, best to back flush (water into the outlet line) first as that will tend to push the clog back out the way it came in originally.
