This is probably a silly question, but:
I can't figure how to fill the transfer case on my trooper. The trans is transplanted from the '86 turbo. There's a note in the factory manual to the effect that vehicles made before september of 85 don't have fill plugs on the trans or the transfer case. I think mine was built in feb. of 85, thus should not have fill plugs. However, the transmission seems to have three plugs on the right side, just as diagrammed for the post september models. I thought the t-case should have the plugs, too but can't see much of anything on the left side of the t-case except for the switch.
I filled the trans, and it took up about 5 quarts. The manual says the capacity for the trans is 4.6L and the transfer case is 2.5L for a total of 7.1L or 1.9 gal. Am I correct in assuming that you add the t-case capacity to the trans capacity? Is it also correct that the t-case won't fill from the transmission? How do I get the last 2 quarts into it? Am I just missing seeing the plug?
Thanks for any help

Ahha - I found it. The plug is there at the top left, but it was covered in a huge amount of grease & dirt that had been 'smoothed' over so it looked like pat of the casting. I had just looked, not poked in earlier attempts.
