Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just noticed it was broken tonight (the mirror glass). It cracked all the way across? Really strange... Anyone ever replaced the glass before? You don't have to buy an entire side mirror do you? What about cost?

Thanks for any input.

Update on this... Do you have to take the door panel off to remove the mirror assembly? I noticed a small area below the mirror that let's you access the 3 star bolts that may remove the mirror w/out accessing through the door panel. Anyone?

If its anything like the older ones, you pop that 'small area' off, and remove the bolts, and your mirror comes off.

Have you checked the EBSCO link? That might tell you.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just found out this morning that it's covered under our comp part of our insurance at Nationwide! It's covered in full w/nothing coming out of our pocket. A new mirror from Toyota (painted) is $282, then 1hr labor another $80(+) for taking off the door panel... Not sure why they don't use the 3 little screws, maybe because it's heated and full power. The plug is probably in the door panel. You can replace just the glass for $100 through Toyota, but it's risky because the glass can crack when putting it back in. My concern now is the matching of the paint... I have not looked at that site, but will check it out.

Thanks for the reply.

For those that have had this happen I thought I'd fill you in. I had the glass replaced this morning at a local body shop. They have a tool that will pop the mirror from the back behind the glass and allow you to put the new mirror in. The total cost through Nationwide Insurance was only $102.00. Very odd for the glass to crack though. I'm still wondering how it did...? Guess this goes along with the rock that cracked the sunroof while my wife was driving! Then she shut the door w/the sunroof closed and shield open. Know what happened to all the glass? Yup, little chunks all over inside the 4Runner... Ugh!

Thanks for posting back; always good to know when there's a cheaper alternative out there.

With those ice storms you guys have had, that might've been what biffed your mirror. Water is one helluva wedge when it gets in a small area and freezes.

I had the glass break on my '95 4 runner and it cost $32.00 at an auto glass place to repair.
