So I changed the front headlights today and replaced a rear brake light. One headlight was burnt but I changed them both. That's all I've done to it in the last week.
SO HERE IS THE PROBLEM: driving to the grocery store and I noticed that the fan for the heater isn't working, I think that's pretty weird. So it gets a little foggy in the cab. I'm coming up to a stop sign, push in the clutch and she dies. It's on a down hill so I pop the clutch, it starts but runs like hell and as soon as I let off the gas it just dies. Sounds weird too, like it's totally missing. After it stalls and I can no longer pop the clutch (out of hill) it just wreaks of gas. I try and start it and can get it to turn over if I keep the gas peddle on the floor, but again it just runs like ***** and will not idle it just stalls as soon as I let the gas out.
Any Ideas? Seems to me like and ignition problem maybe, but why would the fan stop. It's parked on some street in the dark and I couldn't check circuit breakers or take much of a look. Tomorrow I'll head down in the rain and try and figure it out. Any ideas would be fanfreakingtastick.

Dead alternator?
I know at least with rodeos when the alternator goes the truck shuts down 'non essential' things on the electrical system and the hvac fan is one of them.

Boys boys boys, she's dying. SHE'S DYING. Toss a little help. I'm teasing, it's ultra late. Problems with Trooper are stiring up a craving for a NEW FJ.... I love trooper though, I miss her from my parking spot, just thinking about her stranded on some stranger street is breaking my heart. The radio will work at voltage levels far below what is required for the relays to activate (for the fuel pump, etc.).
Run a quick voltage check on battery, at least as a first step to diagnosing this issue.
I can think of many things that could potentially give the symptoms that you describe.
Start with some basics.
Are you getting fuel to the injectors? Is the spray pattern consistent and the same for both injectors?
Are you getting spark to the plugs? All the plugs?
If it passes both those tests, do you have compression? If so, then you have all three requirements for the engine to run, but they have to happen at the right time. So now you are down to timing issues.
I am not trying to be condescending. You need to start diagnosing the basic systems to try to isolate the problem.

Yeah It could be the alt/batt. I once drove home from uwharrie just on my battery. It was like 500 miles. I started out and made it about 250 miles before we noticed a problem. We were driving along and the radio went out, about a minute later it died.
So we were towed to a autozne where we had the alt checked. They said it was bad, so I bought/installed a new one. After charging batt, we were off again.
We made it about another 250 miles and made it 10 miles from home when the radio went out again <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />.
So we got a ride home to pick up a charged battery, and she cranked right up and drove home.
I later found out that the white alt wire was bad, right at the connection between the battery and the alt. I had a long winch pull at uwharrie and I think thats what killed it.

I am not trying to be condescending. You need to start diagnosing the basic systems to try to isolate the problem. I didn't think you were, it died last night in the middle of my neighbor hood. Because it was dark I couldn't do any diagnosing, was just looking for ideas for when I headed out today. Here's a little update, there is an orange wire with a fuse on it near the driver side headlight, I remembered looking at it and thinking it was random. Last night when I was laying in bed I remembered this wire, I thought I could have tugged on it when I was putting in the new headlight. So I got out of bed and walked down to the truck with a flash light, sure enough I had pulled one end of the wire from the clip, I cleaned it off and stuck it back, voila the defrost fan worked. I tried to start the engine and it wouldn't go, then I just healed the peddle to the floor and finally she fired up, wouldn't run smooth, wouldn't idle, sounded like garbage. Then I came home, washed my hands, and the sink trap just cracked open. So I'll fix the sink <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> then I'll head down and check the plugs. I can almost drive it if I keep the RPM's above 2000 but when it stalls it takes forever to restart and really smells of fuel. It seems to me like an ignition problem. Really fantastic when things break around Christmas.

I think there is a leak in the fuel line, does this sound like it would cause these symptoms?
