hi all, smelling gas on start up and getting horrible gas milage(13-14). gutless wonder on hills as well. plugs, cap and rotor have only about 4k on them. seems like oil pressure might be a little low but this is a new truck to me and not sure what normal is. goes between first and second mark. any input would be great, thanks folks, calchef

sounds like a stuck injector. which plug looked dirty, out of line with the others?

If EFI: Replace your oxygen sensor. The ECU keeps the injectors on longer to deliver more fuel as long as the oxygen sensor is: a: cold b: malfunctioning
How old is your fuelfilter?

What kind of plugs ? I it has platinums, even if they have 4,000 miles they are not good in yota's. Put in factory speck NGK or Delco's.Factory gap them and it will lose the gas smell and get more power and better mpg. I had bought my yota and the same thing was happening.

thanks for the info. i've never changed the egr valve or the fuel filter and when i changed the plugs last year i noticed one on each side was darker than the other. and i may have put platinums in there. so i'll try those fixes and hopefully it'll be happy trailin' for now. ciao for now, calchef

As for your oil pressure question, I have 6k miles on a rebuilt 3VZE with the original oil pump that checked out fine for clearances against the FSM procedure. The pressure ran between the first and second mark once warmed up at cruising, a little lower at idle. Then I replaced the sending unit (it was the stock sender), and it went up to midrange at cruising RPM.
I have Bosch Platinum plugs in mine, have not had any issues with them yet, but am keeping an eye out, given the input I have been seeing on this board.

platinum NGK are fine. it's bosch plugs, that you dont want to run...

how easy is it to change a fuel filter? Should i get it only from dealer or partstore?
if it's complicated work i'll just bring it in to get it change. Filter is at least 10000km old & tank/fuel line are 243xxxkm old.
Just like the other day when it was -15?c out, truck couldn't start due to fuel problem. I went back a day later (warmer t?) & it started again. ??? Water in fuel?
