Getting the Wheeling Fever
My seatbelts don't retract by themselves in my 92 toyota pickup or my 2000 tundra, is there some kind of fix for this it is really annoying?. I was thinking I would have to go to the dealer and get new spring assembly or something?

Thanks,
Brian

You new guys need to get better acquainted with our Toyota section in the header.

Give that a whirl first.

I followed the steps in the link above and it didn't help mine at all. I replaced them once with OEM belts and they didn't work much better either. I've seen these online, but don't know anything about them.

I might be inclined to pull the trigger if I heard some good feedback. Otherwise, I'll use what I've got. After all these years, I'm used to them.

I found two key points of the above spring fix (I wind mine as tight as they will go), is to both clean the belts thoroughly and then hit them, once dry, with some ScotchGard or similar silicone spray. The cleaning makes the belt more flexible and the silicone helps the belt slide over the various parts of the retractor.

I second that, especially washing them, I washed one and not the other and the one that was washed worked much better, needed no help retracting.

Also make sure you clean the loop on the upper mount that the belt runs through at the top -- over time, sludge will build up on the surface of the plastic, and gum up the movement of the belt through the loop. If my old brain serves me, there was a TSB on this once upon a time -- specifically for Corollas and Chevy Geos, but I think it also applied to all Toyotas. The TSB involved both cleaning the upper mount, and sticking some adhesive-backed super-slippery plastic film onto the mount underneath where the belt slides through. Did this on my wife's old '94 Geo, and it worked great. Just cleaning the upper mount is almost as good as having the plastic film in there.

I just did the retractor fix on my 93T and did not get much out of it. Seems to me there was a posting about a silent recall for these. Any help on that?

I did the spring mod first, which helped a little, then I washed them, which helped a little more, then I wrapped a piece of packing tape around the bottom part of the shoulder hoop, and that helped a little too.
Now I just have to get out of the habit of feeding the belt everytime I take the belt off..

I need to fix mine, on both of my 4Runners. My wife gets out of the passenger side, and slams the friggen clasp in the door, putting 2 big dents in the door jam! I've never yelled at my wife so angrily in my life!
