Getting the Wheeling Fever
Ok, I am a pretty capable shadetree here. Having some serious issues though. Here are my symptoms:

Hard shifts, I mean blood curdling bangs.
Downshifts at wrong times. (takes to long)
Surging idle. I mean 2000 rpm in park.

What is known:
Trans has never been serviced.
Intake manifold gasket leaking.
New battery and no known chargin issues.
No recent electrical work done before onslaught of gremlins.

I do not believe the IM gasket is causing the idle issues. It would just flop around as it has in the past between 800 and 1200. Not a really bad leak. Fixed it once. used cheap gaskets. wont do that agin.

I have the stuff for the trans service. Why would that cause the 2000 rpm idle? This all happened at once.

Your brains are appreciated.

Thanks

Have you checked your transmission fluid level? Low fluid can cause hard shifts. Don't know about the engine surging during idle, could be a lots of different things.

looks like i am going to the local isuzu stealership for some intake maanifold bolts. thank god for easyouts!

also i found this on planet. my recent bashing of the site has been rescinded. Crow tastes like crap but sometimes you have to eat it!

First off, make sure they have the ATF level correct. Many places unfamiliar with the (dipstickless) 4L30E dont do this right. Second common cause for harsh shifts is a faulty range/mode sensor (attached to the shift arm). Amigo2K was recently having tranny troubles and it turned out being a bad intake manifold gasket!- so misfires will also throw the tranny into limp mode causing harsh shifts or constant locking/unlocking of the torque converter. Higher end computer diagnostic tools (code readers) may be needed. Good news is- it *rarely* is not the transmission itself.

Sounds like my problem exactly. I will let you all know the outcome.

Not the one in Beckley, I hope!

It sounds like youÆre just going there for parts û but just in case, whatever you do, DO NOT let their ôIsuzu Techö (æDakotaÆ, æCheyenneÆ, or whatever his name is) get anywhere near your vehicle! --- ItÆs a whole lot longer story that IÆm going to go into right now, but TRUST ME; that manÆs work very nearly got me killed

If it turns out that they donÆt have the bolts in stock (and my guess is; they wonÆt), youÆd probably be better off placing an order with Jerry Lemondà Here is his 4x4Wire Profile: LINK û Shoot him a PM.

Body Damage is Cool
For the surginjg idle,
It may be your IAC solinoid.

if you look at the front of the engine, from the point where the plastic pipe enters the TB,move your hand down and to the left, you'll see a plug that is above the springs, try to move it,if you move it counterclockwise this will raise the idle, pulling clockwise will slow the idle, the wifes was bad and it would surge bad.it was actually boken inside.
I actually pulled it clockwise to fix idle and then zip tied it down to finish wheeling...
