So my 22r was equiped with a hedman header when I got it and the lower front bolt was missing/broken. It appeared that the block/header gasket area had been smeared with a red sealant. It is now leaking pretty bad. The exposed remaining studs all look pretty bad (rusty, bad threads) so I'm not sure how to proceed. I've got a feeling as soon as I start to pull the header more studs are going to break off. So how does the easy out/ rethread business go when the engine is still in the truck? I appreciate any ideas.

Thanks

On that side there is plenty of room to work if you break a bolt, and once you get it off the might be anought of the bolt expose to pull it out, just spray them all down really good and let me soak over night plus make sure you have a new gasket and new replacement bolts or studs. a good impact gun help.

I have never had to drill into a block and my previous attempt with as "easy out" wasn't easy at all. It seemed like it was difficult to keep centered and I don't own a tap set. I was hoping to get some specific directions on how to get this done without screwing up my block.

I saw stud sets for sale at $40 which seemed kind of high. I also hoped someone could tell me what the best gasket would be.

Thanks

OEM gaskets are far better in most cases. yes they are more money but are worth it.

Well, thanks for the input. I am starting to assemble my parts. I ordered the header & collector gaskets for the hedman and I'll call around to see if I can find a stud set locally. The "KROIL" penetrating oil looks good but I don't see it around here. Is there a second best that is more common (NAPA, Autozone)?

Thanks & Almost Happy New Year!

AutoZone usually carries PB Blaster that works pretty good. You can order Kroil from http://kanolabs.com/. they'll usually send you a free or reduced price trial can.
