Getting the Wheeling Fever
I was wondering if anyone has any info on swapping a 4g63 mitsubishi turbo engine into a 92 toyota 4x4?

Thanks,
Brian

Why in the world would you do that?

Sillier things have been done, i guess....
But i dont think anyone has OR thought of... doing that swap... you're on your own.

I was thinking it's just a great all around engine that I know very well. There is a guy on dsm tuners that had a suzuki with all toyota running gear and he put a 4g63 in it and said that he really liked it. Here is a link to his post. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cylinder-head-short-block/73227-rear-wheel-drive-merged-9-7-a.html

>>>*I remember my Daddy telling me that we could put anything into anything if we had a cutting torch and a file....*LOL**..

He was in the process of installing a flathead Chrysler engine and transmission into his 1938 Chevy wagon at the time. Later that very same engine and transmission ended up in our 26' Salmon boat. (Yea, I was a little kid.)

The 4G63 and 4G63T engine by Mitsubishi is a popular little 2.0L DOHC 16 valve design, it likely rivals the 22RE in durability, even popularity. It is found in Hyundai's, Eagles, Eclipses, Galants, on and on.

Folks running those engines are all mildly crazy and think 30# of boost is "normal", in my day if someone ran that much we all got down behind the big white roadgrader tires in the infield.

Yet they handle that and even more, with power numbers of 500 H/P and more being fairly common.

I know a bit about them, since my company has H/P head parts manufactured for them. The weak link there is the timing belt, when it goes it means 16 valves and usually valve guides, too.

The other flaw in your idea is the RPM powerband, I doubt that engine design would work well in the heavier 4 X 4. Perhaps with some serious gearing? The torque curve suggests the best use is in a lighter vehicle, racers use shift points in the 9-10,000 RPM range. More sometimes.

The other concern would be trying to install it, nothing would fit anything.

But? There is that cutting torch and the file... ...One would sure get attention with say, a dual transfer case, etc?

110 to one gearing, she will climb rocks.

Now if you were building a dune buggy or say...a dragster?....*EB

Yea I had a 91 eagle talon for 6 years that I built up to about 400hp, that is how I know the engine very well. One of my friends just told me about a bellhousing that would mount up to the w series tranny so it just got us thinking. But you do make a good point about the power curve. I just wish my truck had a little more get up and go. Maybe I will just stick with the performance engine that sunwest makes it sounds cool.

It doubt it has the low end torque needed for your truck.
If you want to swap, a 302, or a supercharged 3.4 would be perfect, and they even make a kit for the 3.4... (it's been well documented).
I wouldnt want a little sports car motor in my truck... a big sports car motor? different story

Now then, I certainly could see doing that motor in a 2WD XtraCab, a bit slammed. Yup, wouldn't be bad at all with 400HP...

Keeping rear ends in it might be a challenge.

Put a stroker engine in, with the crank from a 4G64 in there you will get the torque you need.
And keep the hot side of the turbo to a 6cm housing and you can have full boost by 1900 rpm. It will move a rock.
