Getting the Wheeling Fever
I baught a pair of chevy 4x4 axles from a blazer or silverado. But I'm not sure if the front is a chevy 10 bolts, dana or what. The form of the diff cover doesn't look like any of the pictures I've found on a 10 bolt axle. Actually it looks a lot like the chevy 12 bolts. I need help with identifying it so that I can buy the right ARB air locker kit.
I'm building a toyota pick up truck with souped up chevy 305 from a camaro 1982, 12 bolt rear axle, trail gear 4.70:1 reduction kit, toyota stock 5 spd manual gear box, 38" bogger TSL.
I also need some input regarding the strenght of the axles...will they hold up to the 3000 lbs of toyota truck going offroad?

We'll need photos or some information on the donor vehicle. Many crawlers here near the Rubicon use Chevy axles on V8 Toyotas with little problem. Photos....

My guess is that the front is a Dana 44.

I have pictures of the axle but I don't have them online. Is there a way to post pics on this forum?
My guess is either a dana 44 or GM 10 bolt but the diff cover doesn't look like 100% alike either one...is there any other way of telling?

IIRC, the D-44 / Corporate 10-bolt break year was 80/81. The D-44 break rotors are solid in the area between the lugs and the rotor face, the 10-bolts are perforated. The D-44 will have a '44' cast in the housing flange in the lower right section of the differential housing, too, viewed when facing the differential cover.

Hopefully it's out of a '76, if it is it would be a 44.

As Rxinhed stated, the 44 will have 44 cast into the housing. Now that I remember the 10 bolt will have a 3 digit code on the housing.

This might help...it has some basic pics and stats of axles.
axle id chart

Notice the bolt patterns on the 10 bolt and 44. That should help you figure it out.
