Hey forum members, I need to purchase new tires for my 90 Monti, I am hoping to do this today. I have read the other posts and I am still not sure what I should go with. Iam using the Monti more for highway driving, and will probably do some off roading, but not much. What is a good all season tire for the Monti. I am looking to get 31x10.5x15, and currently have the BG AT on the Monti. I don't particular care for the BF's. Has anyone every tried or know anything about the Cavalier AT brand tire? I've had exceptional wear from the BFG all terrains. However, I've had good wear and drivability from Bridgestone, too. I'd check the durometer rating, traction, etc. to establish the characteristics of the tire. A higher durometer rating can be indicative of increased tread life but have a lower wet traction. The heat and traction ratings can be used to look at 'perceived' value. I had some Cornell tires from Pep Boys that I put about 60K miles on; I ended up selling the set of tires and rims for more than I had paid for all 6 of each.

A little bit of internet research coughed up the Sport King, Mud King, Traction Plus and All Terrain names. It could be that Cavalier is just an umbrella name for other mass produced tires. I've had and some Sport Kings and Mud Kings with good service.

Thanks rxinhed, I should have added that the Cavilier tire i am looking at is actually the Sport King tire made by Cavalier.

Currently I am running Pro Comp AT's, and they are very good tires. I haven't had any problems with any terrain except very thick mud- but even then if I had a front locker, I don't think I would have gotten stuck. If you encounter a lot of snow, they are exceptional in that area! I am going to switch to Dick Cepek FC-II's in the next couple of months, just for a more aggressive AT. I have dunlop radial mud rovers, cheap, effective and have heald up quite well. they're 32x11.5 r15

the Yokohama Geolandar AT is BY FAR the best all-terrain tire out there...my old ram 50 had them on there for 80,000km then I sold the truck, still had half the tread left. and they were amazing on ice/snow and in the mud were very impressive also. and no highway noise...they were all I could ask for out of a tire.

I've never heard of that brand. At your looking at them because there cheap? Not all tires are created equal, look at the A-B-C ratings, the speed rating and wet weather performance. Tires that last over 50K are hard rubber and for the most part have poor wet weather traction. Your in LA so that is not a problem <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

thanks for the feedback guys. I did purchase the Cavilier Sport King AT tires. This brand is made and a subdivision of BF Goodrich. I've read many good reviews about them, as well as not so good, but I had the same result about many of the other tires I was reviewing (Toyo, Yokohama, Khumo, BG's and so on). The price was less then most of the popular name brand tires, and the tires seems to have some very good reviews. I have managed to put 150 miles on them today, all highway miles, and they felt good, and the drive was smooth and quite. Unlike other tires I have purchased where you can feel the tire grabbing every grove in the road, the Sport King AT tire feels good. I am hoping I made a good decision and will keep you posted after I put a few thousand miles on them and take them off the hightway

I had some 32x11.5 Sport Kings mounted up, put about 2500 miles on them with no issue except that I had them on too narrow a rim. I drove across a stream wier that had about 1' of water and muddy conditions on both sides, they did alright. One of the rockier job sites I had early in the year gouged a tread block out. Overall, for the price I paid for them they were fine. I later sold them for profit. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
