Pulled the motor on my 2.8 Monty SWB today. She started loosing power and the other day wouldn't start. Ran a compression check and had 40 lbs on #1 and 0lbs on #2. I think the timing might of jumped. It looks like the fuel pump gasket was leaking oil and the head gasket as well. I haven't got it on the motor stand yet and haven't pulled the head to see what it looks like. Anyway, on E-bay AAAA Automotive it selling G54B 2.8's for $480.00 rebuilt. They list them for 1981 - 1984 monty's. If things look bad will this engine work with my 1988 with 5 speed or do you think I should redo the head and reinstall? I would like to swap in the turbo or a GM 6, but don't have the time to do it right now.
Thanks, Nate <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Yes, it is a 2.6. I goofed up and put 2.8. I had just got done listing my Ford Windstar with a 3.8 with a bad trans for parts and the 8 was stuck in my head. Anyway, I was wondering if the older 84 2.6 would fit my 88. I will go measure the bell housing ans see what I get.
