I tend to park on snow mounds that have recently been plowed in parking lots and such...I know I am a hard core city-wheeler lol!
My question is, since I am basically parking on an incline (for periods of time occasionally), am I damaging or wearing anything prematurely?

When you put on the parking brake push the button then pull, don't let it click
Seriously, I can't think of any extra wear. If there was road salt I would avoid it.

That is good to hear (sometimes it's the only action my MS sees in the winter lol). I guess I question it because sometimes it can be harder to move the shifter column from park...I have read a little on transmissions (how-stuff-works is great) so I know a bit about how it keeps the car from moving while parked...which is what brought the possibility of wear to me.
Thanks for the reply...now we just need some more snow in Denver!

For an a/t, it's a strain on the case to hold the truck on a slope with just Park. I highly recommend using the ebrake, too, to take the strain off the park pawl in the tranny. Get's rid of the strain and clanky, too.

Oh I definitly use that e-brake, thanks for that extra bit of info. Get's rid of the strain and clanky, too. Can you elaborate?

If you engage the e-brake after you put it in park but before you release the brake pedal, it relieves the strain on the tranny when you put it back in drive later. Hence, no strain or clank

Gotcha, thanks! This is normal practice for me, usually I'll put it in neutral and use the e-brake, then put it in park. Thanks for the help on the new-b question!

Don't use neutral. Always put it in park and use the the ebrake. If the parking brake slips or becomes loose over time there's nothing else keeping your truck from rolling away.

Don't use neutral. Always put it in park and use the the ebrake. Oh yeah I don't leave it in N...I just use N to relieve the tranny and use the e-brake. I always use park/e-brake when I leave it.
