If you have never had an engine with side draft carbs, you would not understand. The variable jet, variable venturi is efficient at any RPM. I loved my Solex's. The carbs have a tube between them for some equlaization. They will not pass an emission test, but will pass all other vehicles and gas stations. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />

I had a Datsun 2000 SRL311 with the twin solexes. VERY nice, when you had them balanced. Still got my floating ball multicarb syncro tool somewhere. Once upon a time I had a 8 manometer tube rig to set up 4 dcoe's on on cross rams on the SBF 289 302hp motor. You had to diddle with the idle stop screws or the air correction screws to balance the vac on each barrel at idle to the same number. There was a limey mech in town who did it by ear, matching the whistle in each barrel. He could get it as close as I could with manometers.
And there is no sound quite like a 1608cc 124 fiat spyder motor at 7500rpms on two wide open 2bbl 44idf's screaming burnt Sunoco 260 out the headers and straight pipes and gobbling the cfm's down those 4 big sewer pipe carb throats. Sort of like a castrati tenor remembering the event...
Not responsible for advice not taken...

Actually Eddy, there is, its a 318 with 8 stacks doing 5600 RPM and sucking hard on high octane, while making 9 second 1/4 miles. Sure it is fuel injected, but man the throb is enough to make a man wet himself with excitement. As we said at the track this summer......Sennnnnsuallll (with a good Southern Drawl).
always working

I've seen a Brit V8 MGC with a Rover and 4 SU HD8's on something like a cross ram manifold...the left bank of carbs fed the right side heads. Cool.
