A couple of questions if I might....
Just tore down my 84 22r to do a valve job and replace the timming components. I saw on the internet somewhere that it is advisable to rebuild the oil pump check valve while I have the pump out. Any know if this is the case and if so what is involved. Looks to me that it could'nt be more that just a couple of "O" rings. Also, While I had the head off I pulled the pistons in the cylinder that had the lowest compression. I am thinking about honing the cylinder and putting in new rings. While inspecting the rod bearings, I noticed that there is a definite wear pattern on the bearing, but I don't see a matching pattern on the crank. Can I just put a new set of bearings in without turning or otherwise addressing the crank? I want to get this vehicle running asap and only plan on keeping it for another year, so I don't want to spend a fortune.

If I were you, I'd take the crank to the machine shop and get it honed and have them do the bearing fitment, so you know it's correct. That way you aren't spending a fortune 6 months from now, but that's just me.

That valve can be rebuilt easily enough; the procedure is in the FSM's sticky'd here. Honestly, if the rebuild parts cost more than $50, buy a new one and keep your old one as a spare instead.

My plugged nickels.

If you use the '93 FSM, you'll see a bunch of links; be mindful there's info for the 22RE and 3.0, so pay attention to what you're reading. Oil pump rebuild is in the lubrication section, possibly under engine mechanical. Go look; info is in the thread sticky'd at the top of this section.
