Getting the Wheeling Fever
A few weeks back I sprung a coolant leak on the large pully by the timing belt. I was out of town and took it to a shop. Several weeks later after they finally found the problem I picked it up an immeadiatly noticed that it would sputter between 1500-2500 rpm. It then started to lurch when I was driving it and threw code 11 (momentary interuption in ECU power supply) for a split seconed.

The coil wire is arching (I have non OEM wires)even when I replaced the coil wire with a new one. I advanced the timing a bit (I dont have my timing light with me I just moved it to see what would happen) and it runs better but not great and still keeps throwing this damn code.

Any Ideas?

So what did they tear down to fix your problem?

I guess they took off the timing belt and put it back on and they must have messed with the distributor Beacuse the timing was retarded quite a bit.

The cams might be off a tad; we have a 3.4 timing belt article in the Yota section above in the header you might give a read to see what I'm referring to. If they pulled the belt without finding TDC beforehand, it doesn't help.

We also have a '93 FSM in a sticky in this section where you can look at the troubleshooting tree for the code, if you haven't already done so.

Hopefully some of these other 6-banger guys will chime in too.

I was afraid that they may have gotton the cams off a bit. Its easy enough to do. I actually did it once when I rebuilt the motor. What about the trouble code?

Oh BTW I'm about a hundred miles away from my shop, is it okay to drive it that far with the cams off?

I'd verify the cams are set up first, then chase that code, if nothing else, to just get the timing eliminated.

It's a non-interference engine, so your call to drive it, really.
