I just bought this 87 Toyota pickup 2x4, its a 22r 4 speed, there is a small coolant leak coming from the rear of the engine, I cannot see where? Hopefully its not a headgasket? maybe its the transmission coolant line, ill have to look into it more. The truck will need a new clutch soon so i want to fix this while im at it. any advise is greatly appreciated
Thanks Joe

If its green coolant, its not transmission fluid. Trans fluid is red.

If it is a 4 or 5 speed, it will not have coolant lines. Check your heater hoses where they enter the firewall.

If it's coolant, there is a plate bolted to the end of the cylinder head that could possibly leak. Is there any oil in your radiator, or is your engine "making" oil? How bad is the leak?

Engine drain plug tight?
Under the exhaust manifold, driver side, rear of engine.
You should be able to check it from under the truck.

it leaves a small puddle overnight, quarter size to about a 3 inch circle size, the previous owner said there is a hard heater hose that runs behind the back of the block that may be it. No oil in it, and it is greenish.
Thanks for the info, tomorrow ill crawl under there and try to find it. Joe

Check your heat control valve. It may be dripping onto the back driver's side corner of the head and run down making it seem like it was coming from the rear of the engine. Mine did. Boy, they're pricey too!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Yep, hard line wraps around the back; there's also the plate Stevie mentions. If you can't see it right away, lay a clean piece of cardboard under there and let it sit n drip. Go from there.

Cool. Why do you need to replace the other stuff?
