Getting the Wheeling Fever
Okay, here is my problem. When the truck has been sitting for a while after having been driven a good distance, long enough to heat things up. When you start it back up it runs realy rough, but it starts up just fine. Then when you push on the gas it just hesitates and bogs down unless you push it to the floor then it takes off like it should. But, when you back off the pedal from the full down position it starts bogging again. It will do this for maybe a 1/10 of a mile then it runs like normal. It never does this when the car has been sitting long enough for every thing to cool down, like a couple hrs. And it always starts right up initialy no matter if its hot or cold. Im leaning towards a fuel pump problem, maybe when the fuel pump soaks up some heat it starts fritzing out until enough cool gas runs thru it to cool it off.
What do you all think? any other possibilities?
Thanks-jon

Could always try the fuel pump test jumper to see if it is an electrical type issue (will force the pump to run):

Would an electric problem be so temperature sensitive? I once had an 89 mustang that did somewhat of the same thing and it ended up being the fuel pump. Just didnt know if anyone had to deal with a similar problem and had solved it.

What about a sensor? could some sensor cause a quick problem then work fine?

Yes, the Air Flow Meter controls the fuel pump and if you have an intermittent connection in that part of the circuit, the fuel pump can cut in and out as you drive (I had that very same problem). Doing the fuel pump test jumper, as noted above, is one way to troubleshoot that sort of problem:

This is definetly a temperature related, heat soak type problem. It only happens when the truck is hot and then parked for a period of time 5-20 minutes then started again. It then runs rough, stalling and bucking except if pedal is punched to floor, then it starts again as soon as pedal comes back off floor. It does this for 2-3 minutes and then runs fine untill shut off for that period of time. When the engine is completely cold it starts and runs fine perfectly and is perfect after intial 2-3 minutes on a hot motor that has set for 5-20 minutes.

Have you tried the fuel pump test jumper?

Is the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line hooked up properly?

I dont doubt that he does. But, this problem is directly temperature related and Im not sure if that test would be conclusive or not in my situation, though I do appreciate the replys.
