Most of the 22R/RE headers will have an O2 sensor flange already installed, since the 22REs need one. I run the LC Engineering header on my 22RE (fits a 22R as well):

For the gauge senders, get the proper adapters/fittings.

You might want to take a look at the Tech Section and read through this. Towards the end of the write up.

But now we need to think about the exhaust system. Improving the exhaust system is number one as far as freeing up usuable power, it doesn't "make" any at all. But the factory needed a quiet, smooth, and responsive engine because the driver might be a little old lady going to the store in Hawaii, or a young fellow driving around at 5000 ft altitude in Colorado. So they compensated for this, and for ground clearence on some vehicles.

The best setup cost wise we have found is to use the excellent factory exhaust manifold, then increase the pipe size to 2" all the way to the muffler, yep, the cat, too. Then we increase again to 2 1/4" on exit all the way back.

This creates a bit of directional flow and frees up power, it fairly quiet and smooth.

Many on the board have used this method w/surprising results.

Good Luck!

I have the LCE header an 2.25" all te hway, and can't complain... but I also have a larger AFM (from a Supra) so (in theory) it's better able to make use of that space.
My manifold had a crack and needed replacing anyway, so that was a good excuse at the time.

I think the consensus (others chime in here) is that of the headers, LCE is the best fitment/easiest installation and support later if you have issues, but this clearly comes at a financial premium. For example years later I needed to replace the gasket at the cat (b/c I'd removed it and it tore in the process), I called LCE to see if I could get just that gasket. Guy said theyy typically don't just sell that by itself, but he mailed me one at no charge.

With 200+ Billion electrical parts, the world most complicated machine is inside your own skull.

Question Reality.

My first header was a downey 4-1 & LCE muffler didnt give me a problem. Its just to loud on the throttle.
My 2nd truck that I run daily has the LCE ceramic SS headers 4-1 & Borla SS muffler and again no problems probably the best for durability.Best sounding exhaust that I have owned.
My 3rd truck has the DT tri-y & Flowmaster super 40 and so far sobetter bottom end on the throttle and again pretty good design. It has that throaty flowmaster trademark sound.
All of my trucks run 2 1/4 after cat.I dont have the ceramic coated just the thick steel type.
My 2wd truck just has stock manifold & muffler.[Linked Image]

Depends on where you want your gains at I would think, had the shorty header from headman but also had a different engine also but held up well but had trouble with the flange a little nuts wouldn't stay tight, once a month nut check, and rubbed the frame if the flange was in the right spot when I had to retighten it and I made a turn faster than normal.
I now have the lce long tube header ceramic coated, I have had almost 6 month but I have had switched motors twice since then, just not happy with the power , but it has held up well and I will be doing another motor swap in a month or to try and get that feeling I am looking for.
The only off roading I do is in my driveway I am a street kinda 4-wheel drive truck pulling a trailer with a couple of bikes on them and wanted good towing power.
If this is any help to you.

Like the looks of that thorley.

I've been told that a design like the Thorley 1->2->4 collection style is better for low end grunt. And the LCE 1->4 collection style is better for higher reving horse power. I have the Ceramic coated Thorley and it installed very nicely. The shiny Thorley I think will Change colors. I don't know how much of an improvement the exhaust made because I did a lot of stuff at the same time.

Good luck with your choice.

Thorley sounds to be a popular header for these trucks. Lots of people are running them with no complaints, so i may be leaning that way, im not sure yet tho. Im pretty sure i would like the lower end "grunt". . but i'm sure either header will get the job done more so than the stock manny.. Anyways thanks everyone for the help so far..
