I only brought up the liberty strut because I noticed that it had a lower fork like the sportage. The fork itself looks longer therefor giving a little more room for the ball joint and maybe lift.
I can not say yes or no to if it fits or not. I wasn't able to grab measurements or really the time to look it over.
I do know the the strut/shock itself is different were it bolts to the fork then the sportage.

In other words...alll we got to go on is the "Jeep Liberty" thing! as far as simply using IFS suspension components from other vehicles, yes. the problem is that because the strut is directly above the CV shaft, you can't use a simplified set-up, like what's on the Sorento and Toyota Tacoma and some other vehicles that use a coil-over shock up front.

Dave with your front second shock setup would it be possible to do something similar, but mount coilovers instead of just a shock? Or would that setup not be sturdy enough to mount coilovers? Just an idea.

there is nowhere near enough room to mount coil-overs, especially dual coil-overs in there with one in the stock position and one in the position i add the other one to.
the best bet is to run a coil-over mounted toward the front of the strut tower and bolted with the thru-bolt for the fork on the lower A-arm. you might be able to fit another shock at the back end, too, but i'm not sure with the upper A-arm being so small. you also have to be aware of the steering parts, the pitman/idler arms and tie-rods.
on another note... there are factory coilovers that come on some chevy tahoes or something that have an average sized shock with a thin coilspring over it. i wish i had grabbed some from my friend's shop that he had removed before he closed, but i'm thinking about looking into it. they are a very narrow package and may be able to fit 2 per side up front and they may be long enough and stiff enough.

there is 5 different spring rates too. So if you buy some be sure they have a tag so you know what you are getting. Mine are 105AA which are the 2nd highest spring rate for the tj's.
generally if you get the ones for a hard top you will get the higher spring rate.
Sportage sold......... 1999 4runner 4x4 , Tundra brake rotors and calipers (well worth it!) -wifes

from what I have figured out the tj's are about 3" higher than stock springs AND stock tires. so I am not sure how much higher the springs alone actually lift it. My tj springs are the 2nd highest spring rate out of about 5 versions. (105AA) from a hard-top v6 model.
so you may not gain any height with the tj spring, you just wouldn't need spacers Jaybur, I have 104 AA's. Do you know where they fit in the line up? I know that they are 12" tall and 150 lbs/in Let me know. 104's are 3rd highest spring rate. they just go in order 102, 103, 104 , 105, 106.
