I have in hand a Weber 32/36 DGAV, with electric choke, which I will be putting on an '86 Montero next summer. I have the carb, complete with adapter plate for the manifold, but I have no instructions on mounting it.

Has anybody written step by step instructions for the process? I've found a couple bits and pieces here and there, but not the complete process.

I need to know what to do with all the vacuum lines, which to block off, which to re-route. I think I've also heard something about water jacket passages, and blocking those.

Has anyone on the forum written what would amount to a tech article on mounting a Weber on the 2.6 engine? Can anyone give me instructions, preferably with pictures?

Thanks for any help.

I can't help you, but I was wondering how do you plan on getting it though the smog test here in SJ? Unless you have a connection, there is no way as most are not approved.

That particular Montero will never be smogged. It is to be an off-road vehicle in a state where the only inspection is safety rather than smog. It will never see the roads of California. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I think the adapter plate blocks off the coolant passage. As for the vacuum...I guess all you'll need is the vac. advance line (which I think gets manifold vacuum) to the distributor and the PCV valve. Calif. vehicles had a second diaphragm on the dist. as well but that doesn't need to be hooked up (i think it gave an extra 5 deg. advance). Everything else can probably get capped/disconnected. Just a guess, someone else who's installed the Weber will probably chime in.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
http://www.webernorthamerica.com/ or http://www.redlineweber.com/

I recently bought a new clearwater head (no jet valves) and a new weber 38 outlaw. My old jet valve head was burning oil and my head gasket leaked oil and coolant. Montys also getting new water, oil, and fuel pumps, timing set, seals and gaskets. May do header, may not.

The adaptor plate blocks off passages to the ERG valve that I assume were used by the original carb (when i got my monty a year ago it already had a 14 year old weber 32/36). I dont see any cooling isuues to mess with. As for vacuum, I dont think you need any of them except from the one vacuum port on the carb to the distributor. You could also use the vacuum hook up on the manifold below the carb but ill be plugging mine and using the carb. port instead) On my intake manifold, i believe the only vacuum hook ups are for PCV and brake booster.

Here are the "install instructions" i scanned for you:

85Montero, many thanks for the scanned instructions. They'll help quite a bit. I think I'm getting a pretty fair idea of what to do now. It shouldn't be too hard a job.

My thanks to all who have responded.

Need a Spot
Do not rely on the adapter kit to seal off the water hole. The best option that was given to me and worked great was to tap the hole and plug it. Before doing this the hole was shooting antifreeze everywhere. Hope this helps.

I put a Weber 32/36 on my automatic trans 2.6 Raider. Works well and not really difficult to install other than there was no linkage to attach the kick down cable. I had to fab a linkage piece and then all was ok. If yours is a 5 speed, no problem.
