I really just wanted to say thanks to 4Crawler, for the awesome job he done with the headlight wiring harness he built for these older Toyotas that have the Dim Headlight Disease. Before I installed anything I checked voltages of the battery and the headlights with the Engine running. At the Battery I had a nice 14.7 Volts, with the Low beams on I was geting a reading of 12.5 volts, and with high beams on it dropped to 12.23 volts. AFter installing the Harness I was able to get 14.5 volts at the headlights with both low and high beams on. I went ahead and took his advise on some after market light housings that let you replace the bulb instead of the whole headlight assembly. I had a busted lense in one light, so I was able to justify they whole upgrade. I ended up spending $45.00 including shipping for the harness, and Each Light Housing (200mm Hella Vision Plus) was $36.00, and then I bought a pair of Hella High Performance Xenon Blue Bulbs for $27.00 The bulbs arnt Xenon bulbs, they just have a blue tinting on them that produces a clean white light without that annoying Blue light that alot of newer cars have. I must say that, was the best $150.00 I have spent in a long time. I was so hyped about them last night when I got done and was able to see how great it all looked I drove 15 miles to my Dads house to show him since he has a 90 toyota 4x4 with the same issues. Needless to say he was very impressed and has this upgrade on his soon to do list. Heres a few pics of the Harness and lights installed, I will try to get some night time pics tonight. Thanks again 4crawler

you should think about replacing your batt terminals too...

they look WAYYYYY too dirty/old/corroded.

Install looks good, you might want to set the relays so they sit upright to keep water out better. Sounds like you saw a decent increase in light output with a 2+ volt increase.

LOL there not dirty there Brass connectors, they tarnish a little bit but have a very clean contact surface.

I definitly got alot better output, my lights now look better than my 07 Tacoma.

Thanks

Great post; I need to do this upgrade on Ol' Blue myself. Thanks for putting this up!

Roger's harness is a fantastic upgrade and easy to install. I did it two years ago and love it! I highly recommend doing this mod as well. Plus, Roger is a pleasure to deal with and ships quickly. What more can a customer ask for?

I put in some headlights from roundeye.com and they helped a bit too. With the H4 bulbs, I can replace them with anything I want any time I want easily and inexpensively.

Need a Spot
I just did the harness mod this week. I already had the Hellas so I didn't notice as much of an improvement, but there was a difference. Going to upgrade bulbs soon.
Definetly recommended !

How much improvement you'll see with the harness installation depends on what sort of voltage drop you have in your existing wiring. Easy enough to test with a volt meter, probing the back of the headlight connector itself (with the lights on):

These are the lights got, (HL83200
H4/9003/HB2 Bulb, 12V, 60/55W, Hella High Performance Xenon Blue, per Pair 27.66) They produce a cleaner whiter light than the regular halogens.

My fav bulbs are the standard 80/100w hella's. they throw out tonnes of light. i dont like the "white" light, i feel it doesnt light up as much, i had some and changed them out for higher wattage stockers.
