Did all of the old forums get deleted? I know there was a simple answers out there for an engine swap.

I have a second Wrangler that I want to preform surgery. The engine in it is slowly going out, I know, I can feel it. What I want to do is put a bigger or possibly better engine in it. It's a 89 Wrangler, 5 Spd Manual Trans, Carb, 6cyl. The engine bay is huge, so I know I can fit something in there.

I want to have a really good engine, but easy to put in. Somthing what would match up to the transmission w/o changing it out. So possibly any engine ideas from 89 and up. If it requires a computer and extra components that fine. Just tell me what is the best and easiest. THX. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

Cheap and easy simply ain't gonna happen.. Have you put bigger tires on that Jeep? If so the lack of response is the 3:07 gears that are in there.. Changing the gears will give you a whole new outlook as to wheather or not you need a new engine..
Even changing to a biggher engine, with big tires, will require a gear change to USE the new engine..
The newer 4.0 is the computer controlled engine that followed the one you have now. Changing to a 4'0 will require a lot of work from the tail pipe forward.

thats a really tough question.....a really good engine that will work with your trans.....I guess it really comes down to what good means for you.... good for me would be an LS1, NV4500,Np205/Np203 doubler kit and d 60's front and rear...lol....anyway....i think your trans is gonna be what limits you....correct me if im wrong guys, but in 89 i think you have the peugot Ba-10 trans....and for lack of a better phrase...you'd be better off using it as a land anchor. I have the same trans in my wrangler now....if your gonna do 4.0 mpi swap your better off buying a F.I. parts vehicle...so you have all the parts you need...plus the peugot trans has the amc bolt pattern plus a 21 spline output shaft...and the ax-15 has a 23 ...hope i helped shine some light for you.
