I have not been here in quite a while! Once I quite smoking, lost 120 lbs, etc, I don't sit at the computer much.

Le' went from 130# down to 109# after she got ran over by the little old lady in a Suburu. I finally got her to eating again though, I was afraid she would vanish. I know she feels better, she is back to being crabby.

Yep..laundry room is all done. Wiring in, R-19 in all the walls, nice siding up. Next I build a couple of neat benches and some shelves to store stuff on for her.

I would just do the laundry myself but she hates it when I do, something about her underwear coming out blue jeans colored??

67 MPH gusts, wildfires over half of VA. Neighbors are missing siding, gutters, sheds, and trampolines.

Anyone got any good advice for chopping down a 60 foot pine? All the tree services are booked for the week solid.

I'd just grab my spurs, safety belt, chain saw, and get it done. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> If you have room to drop it in one piece, that's always the best. Use your truck to put some tension on the tree if you're worried about which way it will fall. If you go that route, take a few moments, and figure out how long your rope needs to be so that you don't drop it on your rig. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> Seems obvious, but I've seen a couple different guys do it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

I can't get a truck back there at all If I do fall it in one piece, it will either hit my shed, my fence, or the backyard neighbors shed.

I 'may' be able to get the truck in the back neighbors yard. Can't fall it backwards because there aren't any solid trees to tie it off on that way either...there only one spot to land it 'safely', and that is over the easement towards the neighbor's shed <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

PO had all the trees out back trimmed up about 25-30 feet, so I can't climb it without gear...which I don't have or know how to use for that fact.

I am pretty good at falling trees, if branches are going to bust stuff then rent a hylift and cut them off. Then maybe you could top it, then drop the rest?

I know when I fell that big Fir up at the other house my wife's eyes got a bit big. I had less than 20 feet between the house and the other trees to hit. Set her dead center on the button.

I never thought much of putting lines on trees, unless there is some way to draw up the slack they can recoil and go just about any direction. I saw a guy try that with a big Poplar once, hooked his Ford pickup to it by the bumper.

I saw what was going to happen and got the he** outa the way, it started, then twisted. Dragged that Ford backwards a good 50 feet. He had his wife in the truck, in gear and trying to pull.

*Once you get the limbs back, the rest is easy. Just cut your steering notches and lay it down.

We have some very big Red Alder we have to bring down this spring, those are man killers because they split. One last year flipped and landed where I had been standing but I knew it was going to do it so I was somewhere else by then...*LOL**...I will be using my brother's little hot rod saw and shear them on the final cuts. Then they go where we aim them.
