The engines lock up and the block right above the left front above the oil pan breaks/blows out. All 4 i have seen have blown out in the same place, 2 4Runners, a Taco and a T-100. All cases had 100-120K on the odometer. Toyota has nothing to say about it, they were all dealer maintained vehicles/records in computer as far as oil changes, Local Toyota Rep is not giving any assistance.

Never heard of it.. More specifics please..

Have these 4 cases been where the vehicles were driven in deep water?

I've never heard of this either.

First you say "I have heard," and then you say, "I have seen."

Isn't that how rumors get started...? Because that's sure what it sounds like to me! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

Probably not in the dealer records. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I haven't heard anything of the sort either (and I drive mine in deep water). All I've heard or seen has been stellar.

But while we're on the subject of "snoping" the 5vz, a local shop owner (& former dealership service advisor), who's forgotten more about all generations and makes of Toyota that I could ever hope to know, told me once that the 3.4 is basically just a 3.0 block with a slightly bigger head, which is part of the reason 3.4s aren't known for the headgasket problems the 3.0s routinely had. Sure they all got recalled, but the actual problems with the 3.4 by all reports were nil compared to the earlier engine.

I smoked one but still don't know exactly what happened. Still ran but on 5 sillys. Kept pourin oil in it cause I had to get home ( about 100 miles) oh and uhhhh pullin a boat. Engine still ran but was blowin oil out of the passenger side front just below the head. Still got it on a stand. No time to investigate but keepin it for a future project. The new to me motor (1 year old w/50+k) is doin well.

My engine "problem" was pilot error. I dogged it and my oil changes were not routine by any means.......still kinda aren't but I guess since I now know how to swap an engine with a basic Craftsman tool set, rock on!

So I say show us some pics give some details and then maybe we will better understand where you are coming from with this.

Mine is running great at 197K. Highest mileage vehicle that I own and the best running by far (the other two are Honda Civics, which run well in their own right).

High water hasn't seemed to give me trouble...

Thanks man! It's the discontinued TJM T100 bumper. Mine is reinforced quite a bit internally in hopes I don't destroy it while winching... so far so good.
