I just got done replacing the Head Gasket and finished hooking everything back up. I was VERY carfull to keep everything on TDC. It ran when I tore it down, now nothing. I put the crank at 12:00 and the cam at 12:00 then put the distrubutor at #1. I've done this 3x now and it has been correct all 3x. I've found out that if I mash the gas pedal to the flool the truck eventually "starts", It's really rough and quickly dies. It backfired at me so I stopped tring to diagnose it that way. This is really making me mad. The timming is close enough then it should at least run. My dad said that the first time he went to start it, it ran for 30 sec. but it stopped. We haven't been able to start it since, it just spins. All of the lines are hooked up.

Any thoughts!

Make sure there are no cracks or holes in the air intake tubing, double check all the rubber bellows sections especially.

Then you can try the fuel pump test jumper to see if that helps:

Thanks 4Crawler-your rapid replies are always welcome and appreciated. I got it started and it would run as long as you gave it gas. With constant throttle, the rpms would flux. We're going to try adjusting the valves to see if that helps. What were the cold set specs again. .008 and .01? I always forget?

thanks,

Well, my Luck ran out. I pulled the valve cover to find that 2 intake valves were stuck in the down possition. I tried to tap them up to see if they would "pop" back up, but I think they already got bent with the piston. So off comes the head and back to the head shop for repair.

Does anyone know why the valve would just stick? The only thing I can think of is that there was NO oil for it to run with. So when it ran for the 30 or so seconds there was no lube and they overheated and seased, then got smacked by the piston. other than that I have no Idea Does this happen more often than not or did I do something wrong or do I really have bad luck? after I pulled the cover, there was oil on everything on the head, cam, rockers, valves. But that isn't to say it got up there after the damage already happened.

I still don't know how I bent 2 valves. I KNOW that everything was installed correctly. TDC with cam @ 12:00. Has anyone else done this? Or have any suggestions? What could have went wrong on the install? Could the rocker assembly be warped somehow or misalign while torquing the head down?

HELP...Need to know what not to do!
