A Sportage Heater core is simple to fix........

......when compared to that on a 64' Plymouth.

Took two weekends to get the b*****d thing out, involved removing the glove box, radio, 2 vacuum valves, 27 screws, a 7lb cast iron blower motor, and a 48"x12"x10" steel box with razor sharp rusty edges.

Then since you can't find a replacement core you have to get it re-cored, local shop quoted $500.00

And I still have to reassemble the heater box, motor, squeeze it back under the dash, and put everything back!

I'm looking forward to doing the one in the Sportage, I need a break! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" />

I forget. Is a Sport Fury a B body or a C body? I have a NOS heater core that I bought years ago for a '66 New Yorker and never installed...

64' was a B body, they changed in 65' The 66's heater is diffrent to the 64' if it is a NOS heater core you could get a few hundred $$ for it on ebay!

Body Damage is Cool
So far that doesn't sound any harder than the Sportage core, have you done the sportage one before?

When I did mine I had to strip everything off down to the firewall, like this:

On the other hand, I guess some people have done it a different way where you don't disassemble everything, instead you CUT the housing then glue it back together?

That sounds kinda like a half-*** job to me though... but whatever works!

Anyway I wouldn't look forward to the heater core job, it's not fun...

Maybe, after I posted last night I looked on Rockauto to see if the heater cores would interchange, and they're still available new there for the '66 C-body...I forget how much. (They don't list one for your'64)
