Getting the Wheeling Fever

87 22R. When the engine is above an idle the heater puts out hot air as it should. When I let it idle the air temp drops to the ambient air. I am thinking the thermostat is on the way out. Any other ideas?
Thanks

Easy enough to pull out the t-stat and test is in a pot of hot water with a thermometer. Might be that it is too cold a unit and is letting the engine run too cold at idle.

At idle your water pump is at idle too. If you are getting good heat at elevated rpm's the heater is probably ok as is the thermo. Make sure you have the fluid topped off. At idle, a little low is a little cool.
