just joined and am a novice here. I need to replace my '91 Trooper headlights as they have rock chips/holes in the glass, and the silicone to cover them is getting a bit too much. My parts search finds headlight assemblies for '92 to '02 newer body style and they seem to be $150+ Each! I checked with the dealer and the quote is $125 each for the '91's. Anyone know of a parts site that handles these? I was most annoyed that what looked like a simple rectangular glass headlight seems so expensive. Also, I would like to protect the glass from further rock nicks. Ideas??

Send Jerry Lemond a note for the headlights themselves. He can get you new Isuzu parts cheaper than anywhere else. He may also have some good used ones that he'll see ya.
As far as protecting them, try using 3M rock guard. It's a heavy MIL clear plastic film that is used to protect the paint. Isuzu used the stuff on the rear doors on some of the vehicles where the wiper rested on the door. They also used it on the lower rock guards on the Troopers.
You should be able to get it at any auto paint supply house. It's a little pricey, but it works well.

Thanks for the info. I want to protect my investment and the film plus maybe a wire mesh would be worth it.

Nobody has mentioned the obvious (to me anyway) possibility of going to your local Pick-and-Pull yard. I replaced one of my headlights this way, paying only $35 for a good as new assembly. My local Pick-and-Pull usually has a couple Troopers.
You have a P-n-P there in Sacto.

There's always Ebay too, although the price may be better at the junkyard....

Thanks to all replies. The headlights are a pain. With several rock chips they won't pass State light inspection for registration. In the old days you went to a parts store and bought a sealed beam by GE or Silvania that fit most cars made. Now the headlights are so stylized that one has to buy headlamp assemblies. This '91 has a composite headlight $$$. The local dealer wants $135 or so. Drove out to the Isuzu recycle yard and the man at the desk informed me that they are no longer buying older Isuzus to part out ( no money in it). They had no used headlamps, and he would do no better than the dealer for new price, so he lost a sale. A little profit is better than no profit. ORV's are for off road and lights are going to break. Manufactures should make body parts that are economical to replace. Found a place on the net that will beat the dealer price by 30%. I think they all order from the same place.

This '91 has a composite headlight $$$. I'm almost positive its a glass headlight, I know both of my gen 1 troopers are. I just checked out EBay and there were a few in the low price range (my favorite price range of all) Jay <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/mrt.gif" alt="" />

You are right, it is not one of those molded plastic, body integrated, lens covers. I have them on my '98 Dodge family van and when they became cloudy with age I was able to greatly improve them with a sanding and buffing kit I got at Kragen. The '91 Isuzu "headlamp" is described as a "composite headlamp" on the parts list, because the glass lens houses both the halogen bulb for the high/low beams and another bulb for the running light. Isuzu was making some headlamp changes for the '89 to '91 years and I gave the parts house the VIN number so they could be sure of the correct lens. By the way this site is a great listing of all Isuzu parts numbers. myisuzuparts.com

When I priced them new they were about $140......I bought a couple on ebay for $50 shipped, but that was a few years ago.
How badly are yours chipped?? Are they letting in moisture?
