I have a few '91 Monteros with one I need to put an engine into. Question: I need some serious horsepower, Is it possible or practical to put a 3000 GTG-----6G72TT [ twin turbo ] in this?
If not I will get another van engine but how can I get some real power to pull a trailer?
Thank You In Advance
Don.

There's no replacement for displacement so I'd swap in the Chevy 4.3 l V6 and tranny from a small Blazer. I have a 4.3 in my full size GMC Pickup; it will tow 5000 pounds no problem.
83 mitsu flat bed 2.6l weber, 88 auto tranny, 2" body lift, 4.625 LSD, 235/85-16E mudders (33 x 9.50).

A 6G75 3.8 will bolt up to your bellhousing. You will need all the electronics, too.
Not responsible for advice not taken...

Thank's whitelespaul, I'll look into that. Do you know of any links for for [done it before]?, to save reinventing the wheel. I've done my share of crazy swaps but now I'm getting long in the tooth and short of spare time.
Just got my 4th '91 Montero, a rust free southern rig with a lunched 3.0. It's a 4x4 auto to be my personal daily driver and trailer puller plus snow blade.
If you have done this or have tips on this swap I would be glad to reimburse you a reasonable amount for your time and advice.. Thank You. Don

LandRaider has a chevy V6 swap. Fast Eddy's suggestion has some merit and may be easier than a full drivetrain swap.

Thanks wheeler and traileader for the leads.
Another question or two together.
I'm a new poster and most of the time I cant find the archive I need. I read the rules, any tips?
Main problem is the other, better of 2 drivers won't shift to overdrive/lockup and the local ?generic import ?specialist doesen't have a clue. Works fine otherwise.
I would appreciate a few hot diagnosis tips and also how to find this thread in archives. I'm sure it's there.
Thanks, torchman

Too bad an I-6 won't fit. Good torque, naturally balanced and very smooth running, and very durable. Good power can be pulled from an I-6 with a little tuning. Some can still be quite fuel efficient too.
