What else needs to be done when you change out the stock carb on a 88 4.2. Do you have to upgrade ignition system? Does the nutter bypass- bypass the computer and run off the ignition module. What about all the pollution control devices on an the 88 when going to a different carb. On my 80 Dodge I took out a garbage can of wires and computer and installed a 4 wire module, distibutor and different carb. Thanks Gordie

The nutter MUST be done or the engine will run retarded at all times and might overheat because of the timing..
Nothing else NEEDS to be done.
Those two mods leave all the rest of the wires and hoses under the hood inert... One might just as well throw them away.

I just did a carb swap on my 88. very easy and I removed all the extra junk. looks so much cleaner. For me in Vegas, my smog requirements are a visual and sniffer. the visual is gas cap, cat and egr. I bought a motorcraft kit from colorado ready to install. If you need a copy of the instructions let me know and I can email them or usps a cd.
