Getting the Wheeling Fever
I read in Diesel Power magazine this month that MOPAR is going to offer a 2.8 Liberty diesel crate motor swap option for the 97-06 Wranglers. Has anyone else heard about this? Supposedly it will be formally anounced at the Easter Jeep Safari. I would love to do this swap to replace a dieing 97 4cyl.

Thanks!

Yeah,

I know, I drive trucks for a living. However, I would be running a Greasecar system on the Jeep so it would start on diesel then once warmed up would switch to used cooking grease. I expect 20mpg as well. So the fuel cost is offset substantially.

Thanks!

Diesel is the root of all evil and hell is fueled with it. That explains today's prices, the whole world is going to hell and they need to crank up the heat before we get there.

I would see if you could find an older jeep diesel(if what i heard was correct and they did make them) I am not sure the newer ones will run grease.I know in the 80's toyota had a diesel in their pickup, and from what dad tells me thatthe diesel engines that work the reefer trailors are 100 and something hp cats(could have misunderstood/heard him) check those out as well.heck if you really want one im sure their are some cat forklifts around you can get an engine from.

Another problem is how to hook all of it up to your jeep if you do get the new diesel, you will need to buy the wiring and everything , unless they plan on including it,and what kind of ungodly amount of money will they charge for it.
I say everyone should ride cows to work, they are fuel efficiant, burn renewable sources, their wastes can be used to fertilize the renewable sources, and best of all if it gives you trouble, when you get home kill it and call it dinner, have a couple back up cows in case. you can buy 3 or four for less than a good used car lol

Now onto the price of diesel , it is a bunch of bs that kind of pricing .diesel has always been the cheeper fuel and here is why. diesel takes less refining to make, and noone wanted a diesel to to the noise and smell., but now that they are becoming more popular due to the economy that they get, less smelly and noisey, not to mention every Tom,Dick and Harry(sorry to any that actually have those names lol) that wants to start a landscaping buisness( here in jersey anyway) the price has gone through the roof. now it seems to me that if demand is higher, the supply is there, and it costs less to make why the hell should it be so damn expensive. if the govt. has any sense they would say " ok diesels are better on fuel economy, put out less overall emissions, and more power for cheaper lets make more car companies make them. We all know that the govt. don't give a rat's about us as long as they get their money. sure someone will say but opec is the cause of pricing, and the amounts made. yes that is so ,BUT at the same time how many billions or more profits do fuel companies make a year. That tells me they are way overpricing everything. which leads to this.I belief that the whole reason the economy is going in the downward spiral is due to the fuel pricing. and if the gov't can't see that they are a bunch of idiots that have no buisness in office. it is getting to the point now that people are not going out to spend money because they need that money for the nessesities,so they are not going out riding around shopping. in the big city areas it don't matter due to mass transit(busses, subways and the like) and pretty much all of new jersey/new york is like that but what about other places that dont have it. ~sigh~ i guess i post stole and ranted enough about this.

out of all the jeeps in this town the d**n gremlin had to invade mine

I have to appreciate a man with a well thought arguement.

As for the greasecar kit, they are offered for almost every deisel vehicle on the road today, and yes this includes the liberty. It is a well thought out and yet simple system.

As for using an older jeep deisel, yes they did exist however the liberty deisel is quieter, makes more power, is lighter, and more fuel efficent. So the choice is obvious.

As for the wireing, yes the wireing and computer come with the crate kit and yeah, they are going to rape us for the simplicity and completeness of the harness. It is my understanding that all of the factory gauges are reusable and a wireing diagram is included. They really are trying to take as much of the guess work out of it as possible.

The other option is to find a wrecked liberty and salvage the motor and wireing, then buy the adapter from Mopar. Due to the limited availability of the diesel in the liberty, this becomes a daunting task.

Thanks for your thought.

i know i sound dumb now but i saw an episode of extreme 4x4 the other day & they did a diesel swap in a samari. they used an old vw turbo diesel & installed the grease system on it. the truck pulled hard & ran smooth & was clean on the grease. they said that you have got to start the engine on the diesel & then switch to the grease & run diesel before you can turn it off. the grease will glog up the fuel system otherwise.
on another note. my friends did an xj diesel mod. they put in a 4cyl cummins turbo diesel in a 1994 xj. took them a motnh of work & quite a bit of money. but i am happy to report that they get better mileage & pull harder than my 4.7 stroker in my 93 xj. they also have alot less in the way of electrical issues now & less vacuum too. so take it as you will. they are paying $4.15 a gallon now though.

Not sure how accurate the statement was but I was at a meeting the other day and we saw a short film about 2 young men who converted a Toyota small firetruck to bio diesel and drove it from Alaska to the end of South America. They used everything from salmon oil to used french fry oil and never bought a drop of gas. The statement was that if we used every drop of used oil for these conversions all it would run would be 1% of the vehicles on the road today.
