Appearantly has about 30K since rebuild. probably not the find of the century, but I'm considering building a stroked 4.0 this summer. If all else fails (meaning the one under the hood), I guess I have a spare. Factor in the dana 300 and driveshafts i have on the garage floor and i have half a drive train! josh

I bought a complete rolling chassis with 258 and a t176/300 for $200. I plan on basically doing the same thing. Rebuilding the 258 (only has 60K) and using the tranny for parts.
2000 XJ Classic - Classically a POS 1994 Isuzu Amigo XS -Sold 1972/3 CJ5 Glass body, 5" lift 34's. 5 years of work coming to an end.

That was a nice find. I picked up an engine stand at harbor freight today for 50 bucks. I have never really done much engine rebuilding since shop class in high school. I got the digital camera and you guys, so it should be a good learing experience. I found a guy selling a xj 4.0 for 400 bucks (72K) sound like a good deal? I know I'll have to switch waterpumps. Josh You'll do a heck of a lot more than change water pumps going from carb to efi. Buy a Haynes manual and get some electrical supplies, your going to need a lot of patience for this one. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> Also I dont see $400 for a 4.0 as that great of a deal, but thats just me.

Well 400 was his asking price. I haven't started haggling yet! I was thinking it might be a fun project. I could do a head swap, but I really want FI, And i figure a good running 4.0 is chaper than a howell kit, and with the time involved in doing a do it yourself efi set up, I could do the engine swap. Now, I know there are the folks out there saying, "slap a V8 in there and be done with it." But kind of like I still have a thing for CJ's, I have a thing for the 6. I just mentioned the waterpump cause the xj's I believe are offset. Josh
