Take it out and wheel it as is. Find out what it can and can't do...and from there figure out what you want it to be able to do. Doing this will give you a better idea of what NEEDS to be changed to fit your type of offroading.

Doing this will also give you a better comparison of how it was stock, and the mods that you decide to do.

Mods' are great, but any possitive will give a negative reaction. It is nice to have extra power, but then you will need to have extra strenth in the drive area. It is also nice to have big tires, but it will have the same effect, you'll end up needing larger sized drive parts.
The best thing is go and do some offroading of your preferance, and debate the vehicals situation. Like brown said.

The best thing you can do is to first spend a few bucks on some basic recovery equipemnt, and then wheel the hell out of it, preferably woith a club that has some Jeeps in it. Then use your experience and theirs to decide what mods you want, what mods will start an enlist list of compensating mods, and which mods you can afford in the foirseeable future.

For the basic recovery equipment, I'd enclude:
1. Frame-mounted tow hooks or clevis' on both ends of the Jeep.
2. Recovery strap.
3. A couple of clevis' (D-rings).

You should get that for under #100.

The first big purchase I'd recommend would be a good 8000 to 9000-lb winch. You can get one from $350 to $1300. With the winch, get a tree-saver strap, a snatch block, znd a set of heavy leather gloves.

1977 CJ-7, fiberglass body, AMC 360 w/ headers, DUI ignition, Edelbrock intake and Holley 4150 carb, TF999, Dana 300, 4.56 gears lockers, York air comp, 4" susp lift, 2" body lift, BFG 35" M-T tires, Megashifter, AGR pump & box, REP8000 winch.

Me to, new to the jeep scene here in Las Vegas. For me first I had to get it running. (Bad timing gear) I struggled with wanting to purchase extras but refrained until I had it running. I used this time to determine how I was going to use this vehicle and meet new local jeepsters. I spent a lot of time in the internet doing alot of research. good luck and have fun.

I am with Bob and Brown on this. wheel it stock and have recovery equipment first., you will need it. It helps you learn proper approach angles and what you and your jeep are capable of. I would add a comealong ( a cable hand winch that you crank by hand) to the list of basics maybe even 2.I would like to add cb radio a really good antannae and a few freinds to come with/ follow you in case of emergency/getting stuck. nothing sucks more than getting stuck alone,or in an accident without help nearby. and a really nice first aid kit to be on the safe side. followed by the bumpers and winches, then lift and tires, and i don't mean the econo lifts with blocks or spacers,or body lift, don't trust them ,never will. You will also have to change gears when you lift and add larger tires. your engine will have trouble turning those tires with improper gearing. There are lots of posts in here on first timers look in those as well for tips. do the search link thing look up stuff like cb , winches, so on and so forth. and always listen to us we know what we are talking about,we been there don that got stuck there dug our way out and so on. the main thing is to be safe and enjoy yourself.

1 more thing to the first time gotta have/ stay in the jeep no matter what is a camera. for the simple reason we want to see the action, scenery,or the crap you get stuck in. we as four wheelers are required to due so in a form of unwritten till now code lol. don't worry we all got stuck at some point,we all had some sort of accident at some point and we all had embarresing things happen. so we won't laugh we will just ask what you learned from it and help the best we can to tell you the proper approach or whatever.
you will learn quickly we are like a family ,including the arguments from time to time but don't worry many of us been here long enough to know what each other means.

Finally WELCOME TO OUR WORLD

out of all the jeeps in this town the d**n gremlin had to invade mine

I've done so much, with so little for so long i can practicly do anything with nothing
