Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up re-tapping and using an insert.

I tried a pipe wrench on the tube but it wouldn't budge. I imagine I could eventually of got it out but I would have destroyed the tube in doing so.

Let me offer a suggestion, check your plugs for tightness regularly. The plug was not cross threaded. It loosened after being in for about 2 years. The plug loosened enough that the last threads could no longer hold it in the head and blew it out. When it blew out, it stripped the last threads and also broke the coil.

go to napa and get a spark plug threading tool, i did this on my truck and it hasnt been a problem since. tape the tool to a socket and make sure you dont mess up.

Another tip:

Use anti-seize compound on the threads to help keep them from getting galled/stripped, etc. too.
