That'll teach me to question it's power output.

My wife was driving it yesterday when it just peacefully died, no splutter or smoke just cut out at the lights and it won't start again.

The only clue I have before I start working on it today is that there is a slight buzzing sound coming from the air intake control valve and it stops when I remove the connector to the valve, doesn't help start it but it's the only thing I have right now. Any ideas?

Cheers

Andrew

Will it turn over? If so, timing belt?

Turns over but I can see the cam shaft moving when I remove the oil filler cap - actually the shaft itself appears to be moving but the rockers aren't?

No check engine light, just filled with fuel to ensure the fuel gauge didn't have gremlins, will post more info when available...

If the cranks moving and the rockers are not, timing belt! Take of the cover to see for sure!

..60k km when you bought it 2 years ago....so now, what does the "clock" show.?
What you describe has been told in same words several times here and timing belt was the culprit quite often...so I'd check for those cams...what you say is strange...pull the T-belt cover http://www.geocities.com/lmp4203/kiasport/timingbelt.jpg and make sure this issue is cleared out first before looking for other oddities.
The word is change the belt before 70,000 miles, that is 110k km...I'm about to go by that rule.

Otherwise....is the CEL ON?
..and yeah...Sporty has a temper....!

There are fuses and 2 relays under the hood. Both are similar..but both must work for the fuel pump to work.

Try to hear the pump buzz for 1-2 sec at KEY ON... fold down the rear seat and remove the cover for access to the top of fuel tank. YOu an take a voltage measurement there at the pump connecetor is pump does not buzz.

Ok now I think I have a problem, I checked over the electrical system for the fuel pump and I'm getting 12V at the connector without any issues and when I remove the fuel line from the filter and turn the engine I don't get any fuel coming out. So the fuel pump looks a little suspect.

Having nothing better to do I decided to remove the fuel pump and try and power it on the bench but after I removed the cover under the back seat I find that the fuel pump is actually further forward than the inspection hatch (if you look directly into the hatch you can only see about 1-2 inches of the top of the fuel pump and it also doesn't have any screws on top of it. It's a plastic top with a series of grip points on it that almost looks like it should unscrew but it won't unscrew by hand and I'm a little hestitant to start getting aggressive with it until I know it can be unscrewed.

Has anyone come across this before?

(BTW long body version)

Cheers

Andrew
