ok so my cherokee has been having the problem that after driving a while at highways speeds and such it starts idling all a sudden while its running whether at slow (10 - 30 mph)or moderate speeds (55mph). It all of a sudden doesnt let me accelerate and it stays at idle speed. I can have the accelerator all the way pressed down and it wont move for a while, while its doing this it will make knocking and popping sounds only once maybe twice , then it kicks back in to normal progression. sometimes this happens after 20 minutes of driving sometimes after 1 hour of driving. its really annoying and i have no clueeee.
i replaced the tps and that fixed a problem i had of starting the car, it would only start if i left my foot on the pedal, but the new tps installed today fixed that but the idling is still occuring and thats my main focus.
if any one can give me some suggestions from similar problems with this in the past or just from knowledge of the car... id greatly appreciate it , id even compensate u if you help me out to fix this but since this is only a forum it seems payoffs are out the window
ill stay posted and will reply quickly
ps im going to a mechanic tomorrow and ill update

Since you say it idles well I doubt the IAC. I'd like to know more about just what the enine does when it acts up. Sounds like it is at temp when it does it's thing.. lectric items usually start acting badly when at temp first before going completely south. Coils and condensors are notorius for running good cold. Also could be a spark box as they do the same. In fact I'd start there. Big Jim

thanks for the reply big jim.
well at times it acts up the first time i drive it for the day, and sometimes it acts up after driving a while. As for the engine what happens is that it just dies out and acceleration is non existant but it doesnt shut off (thank god) i keep my foot on the accelerator and nothing, then a really loud popping sound coming from the front right side of the car sounds at times twice before running normal. maybe its better said that it stalls rather than saying it idles? ill be at like 50mph and then she just does not want to move any more , it seems real forceful on the engine trying to get it to run normal. maybe its stalling?
ima check the spark box today at my mechanics, ill reply and keep u updated! thanks alot

cracked rotor cap causing misdirected spark, or very weak fuel delivery.
